I found a new river level/flow guide website, and added the link. The river is predicted to get above flood stage (minimally) in the next few days.
Also the town of Fort Atkinson is considering making some areas off limits to shore fishing. Be aware of any new regulations if you setup there.

Update on River Conditions
Here's the latest information we have:
Rock River: Sections are open and are being fished from shore and from the boat. The water is still very cold, and large ice flows are a problem. The water is very high, and anglers need to be prepared for changing conditions.
Dells Area: This area remains active, with lots of legal sized fish being caught. Drfiting with Lindy rigs appears to be catching fish as the fishing pressure increases.
DePere: The voyager park area is open and anglers are reporting catching fish. Some fish over 25+ inches are being taken, especially after dark on big jerkbaits. Expect a big crowd the next couple weekends.
Oshkosh: the River is open from the Pioneer inn to the 41 bridge, but some of the launches still have ice around them, notably rainbow park by the 21 bridge. Anglers are just starting to catch fish.
Winnecone: Ice is still reported by the launches, bu the river itself is open and being fished from the bridge.
Updates will continue as they come in to us. Be careful of the river and other anglers. High water years usually mean good fishing conditions, and I think this year could be something special.

Sunday Evening Update
Well gang, I just spent a hour on the phone and checking emails. Here's what I got:
Lakes still have alot of ice on them, but there's some sketchy ice, especially by the shore. The ice is also super sloppy. Standard disclaimers apply to fishing late ice, please be careful and spud your way in and out. A pfd is never a bad idea either.
The river situation is mixed.
The Dells are open, but the launch and the river has been busy. It was described to me by a guide a few minutes ago as resembling Chicago, during Rush Hour, in a blizzard with a jackknifed semi on every possible route in or out of town. I know its a little poetic, but the pressure is getting to the fish apparently. People who were out during the past week reported much better catches than those coming in the last couple of days.
The Rock River is still iced up for the most part. The channel/flow is open, but the launches and shoreline still have some ice. Newville is open apparently, but the Fort Atkinson and Jefferson Area Luanches are still dicey. There are a few people hitting open water spots from shore, although I don't have any good information on how they are doing. The flows are very strong and the Rock is approaching flood stage. You'll need heavy tackle this year, but the run should be fabulous. Bring an extra anchor and make sure your trolling motoris working at peak.
Parts of the Fox River around Oshkosh are starting to open up. I didn't hear from my guy there yet this evening, but I believe he may have made it out at Ceape Street near the mouth. I know Rainbow Park was froze up good as of this morning. If I hear something yet tonight, I'll update this post.
Winnecone is still frozen in good. The launch at the Fin is still blocked, despite a report on Lake-Link apparently.
That's what I got for now. I'd say the Dells are your open water option until next weekend.
Stay Tuned,

Crappies on the bite/walleyes on the run!
Gamefish season is closed, but late ice crappies are on the bite. A bunch of very nice crappies are being taken by anglers on Lake Five.
Walleye runs have started. There's already a batch of fish being caught in the Dells, and open water is just around the corner for the Rock River.
All reports place the flows as very strong, with high water conditions. Bring some heavier jigs, lindy weights and bottom bouncers. Don't forget the three way rigs and stinger hooks.
Here's one from me. I like to run my three way rigs with a red treble. A number 8 or 10 sized treble on a three way usually gets them, regardless of how short they are biting.
Eric's going to setup a rack with all your river needs this week. if you have additional questions about river fishing this time of year, email me or call the shop.

Gamefish season is closed/Dells open
Gang,
I just wanted to remind everybody that gamefish season on most inland waters is now closed. You can still fish for panfish on any of our local lakes, but the season for bass, walleye, pike and musky will remain closed until the first saturday in May.
Some areas have open season year round. These tend to be rivers, as well as the winnebago system. The Rock River is the closest open season water right now, although it remains pretty iced up.
----
If you are feeling adventurous, the River's Edge resort baot launch appears to be open, and there is open water in the Dells. There's usually a pretty decent early run of walleyes there, and this year should be no exception.

A look ahead....
Its time to start thinking about getting the boat ready, walleyes will be biting just around the corner now.
There's lots going on at the shop. We've brought in a whole bunch of new gear and tackle for this open water season.
We're planning a biggest crappie of the spring contest. The biggest crappie brought into the shop during the early season will win a G-loomis ultralight. Details and registration information are coming up.
We're working on a way to bring you underwater video of the musky that spawn below the oconomowoc river dam. We ran a few tests last year, and we think we can get some really good video. Stay Tuned.
Tuesday night Big Bass League will continue this season. Mark your calenders as the pre-season meeting will be the last Tuesday in April.
The weekend prior to opening day, the shop is going to have an event. more details will be forthcoming.
looking forward to some open water....

PS. You can see a picture of my 10lb 2oz largemouth I caught in Texas last week over on the guideblog. Just follow the link.
