Fishing Report
Been an interesting week. Super hot and muggy with an extended period of lower temperatures ahead.
The Bluegills are done spawning for the most part, and although small gills can still be found in the shallows, better panfish are starting to appear on the deeper weedlines. Silver, Golden, Ashipunn, both Lower anmd Middle Genessee, Lower Nashotah and the Madison lakes have been giving up some good batches of panfish.
Bass are moving in their summer patterns, anglers over the reported catching fish both shallow and deep. Docks, slop and the deep weedlines all have active fish. Largemouth have been active on Okauchee, Oconomowoc, Golden, Nag, Forest and Pine, but I'm sure most area lakes have active fish on weed edges in 8-12 feet of water. Piers have been very good during the hot parts of the day.
Muskies have been a little spotty, but stillvery consistent. Many anglers have begun trolling for them in deeper water, but other anglers have reported raising fish along the deepest weedlines. Quality fish have been reported on Labelle, Okauchee, Oconomowoc and Pewaukee in the last week.
Walleye action has been above average. Spinner harnesses with leeches, back trolled on lindy rigs or behind bottom bouncers has been the method this season. Suckers fished on a split shot rig have been taking some better fish, especially in the late evenings. Weedeges and sand grass are the areas to key on, especially in 18-22 feet of water. Pine and Oconomowoc have been giving up fish. Lake Koshkonong had a hot bite going on in the main basin in 4-6 feet, but the heat and pleasure boats kept many anglers off the water the last few days. Pulling harnesses or cranks has been giving up a mixed bag of walleyes, pike and whitebass.
Pike action has been very consistent. Fish the weed flats and outside edges with spinners or live bait. Smaller crankbaits, buzzbaits and lipless crankbaits.
Try Moose, Golden, Okauchee, Kessus or Nag for Pike.
Good Luck Out There

TNBBL/ fishing report
Its been slow, but steady for bass this season. The warmer weather is sure to get things going though.
Panfish are spawning, pike are moving out to the deep weedlines, and the topwater bite is picking up. Musky trollers are starting to catch fish in the deeper water.
----
Tuesday night is Big Bass League Night, and it will remain so through the rest of the season. We've had a an issue come up with our tournament permit, but we've worked it out. Every other week we have to keep the number of boats to 19 or less. We can have up to 99 guys (and or gals) but have to keep the number of boats down.
This week will be as it has been, anyone can signup, pay and fish. Depending on how many boats we have, next week we may have to control the number of boats. I'll be posting to let people know how things will be for each week. You can check lake-link or the shop's fishing report blog for the info.
If you're fishing this week, bring ice. You can use it, and put some in your live well. 90+ degrees in the afternoon tommorrow.

Weekend Update
Well gang, more fantastic weather on the way through.
Fishing has been pretty steady, and there's not much new to report.
Bass are in the post spawn, but can be caught along weedegdes, under piers and around rocks. Live bait is drastically outproducing plastics right now. Tubes, wacky and jigworms/shakey head are all catching some fish, especially around rock or sand/weed transition areas near deep water. Topwater bite is starting to pick up. Buzzbaits and poppers are catching fish.
Pike fishing has been steady and consistent. Drag suckers on a slip sinker rig around the dropoffs or throw spinners or buzzbaits over scattered weeds on the shallow flats. Moose, Lower Nehmabin, Okauchee and Pine have had better than average pike action lately.
Musky fishing is picking up for trolling bites. Several fish are starting to chase and take topwater presentations, especially in the very early morning. Fowler is giving up some nice fish.
Walleye fishing has been good. Night trolling with flatline cranks or harnesses has been catching some keepers. Pine and Fox have been good, Oconomowoc and Lac Labelle got red hot before the last batch of rain. Also try Koskonong in the protected bays.
Bluegills are nesting on most area lakes. look for bigger gills in 8-17 feet of water. Silver, Middle Gennessee, Lower Nashotah, Ashipunn and Golden have all been good.
See you Monday.

TNBBL: Prediction
Under. All the way. The fish have moved into a post-spawn pattern. Males will be guarding fry all over the lake, but the larger female fish will be deep and lethargic.
The only out I will give myself on an under bet this week would be if someone catches a nice fish around spawning bluegills.
Rocks and rock/weed transitions will have active fish, but I think it's going to to be a tough night.
One last thing, we'll be getting a visit from the DNR at the weigh-in tonight. Make sure your fish measures.

Fishing Report 6-13-09
Well gang. They call it fishing for a reason. There's lots of fishing going on but the catching part has been pretty tough. Pike fishing has been the most consistent.
Panfish are on the beds on most area lakes. Look for bigger panfish in 8 to 15 feet of water.
Bass fishing has been slow. Some anglers are doing pretty well with crankbaits, spinnerbaits or texas rigs in 8-12 feet of water. Look for weeds along points and drops and work those areas.
Muskie fishing has been very good. A few anglers are starting to troll, but working the weedlines has still been producing fish. Okauchee, Pewaukee, and Oconomowoc lakes have all been very consistent.
Live bait is recommended for pike, bass, walleye and panfish. Slow and steady wins the race.
Good Luck

TNBBL:Week 6 Results
Musky Mikes Big Bass League Week 6:
60 anglers, 24 fish. 4.18 1st 3.44 2nd 3.34 3rd. Lots of three pound fish brought in.
The deep bite is turning on. Weeds in 10-15 feet are holding fish, but getting them to bite is a bit of a challenge.
This weekend's WABTA tournament: The deep weedline spots will be busy, but productive.

TNBBL:Prediction
I'm guiding during the day tommorrow, so I wasn't sure I'd get this up. I was on with the over last week, and I'd like to extend my streak.
These fronts we've had are going to make for some tough fishing Tuesday night. But the smallies look to be on the feed.
I'll take the over this week. I don't think its a good call, but if it does get warmer in the late afternoon, some fish will get real active before dark. Topwater, crankbaits and jig/chunks will all catch fish tommorrow night.
Over.

Weekend Report/ Free Fishing Weekend
Well gang, the weather looks to be turning a bit sour again. It'll be summer sometime, but for right now, think spring.
Bass, walleye and pike fishing is slow and steady. With this bad cold front set to move through, I'd say its time to break out the live bait. Water conditions are more like early may than early june. Suckers, shiners or fatheads on lindy or other slip sinker rigs will produce. Find fish by dragging these rigs while using your electric trolling motor. You don't want to be going over 1mph.
Trolling bite has been pretty good on Koshkonong and Winnebago, but the wind has been limiting the number of guys heading out.
Musky fishing has been very good. Lots of mid to upper 40s have been reported. Oconomowoc and Okauchee have both been very consistent this season.
----------------
Free fishing weekend:
Free fishing weekend is a great time to take youngsters out to try fishing. Keep it simple when taking kids out for the first time. Its been my experience that action is far more important than size with kids that are new to fishing.
While the cooler weather this spring has made fishing a bit on the slow side, it has provided you with an excellent opportunity for this weekend. The water temperature is just about right for panfish to start schooling up in the shallow water, and in many places this means there are fish accessible with a cast from shore.
You won’t need much in the way of tackle. A few bobbers, a bag of split shots and some quality hooks and some live bait will provide you plenty of action. Small minnows, waxworms, redworms, leafworms and/or leeches are great options for chasing shallow water panfish.
Personally, I like the public landings at the Okauchee, School Section or Moose Lake boat launches for shore fishing. Other good spots are Forest Lake (in Nashotah Park) and the public shorelines around Upper Gennessee. There's a good list of local shore fishing locations in the right hand column.
If you’re heading out in a boat, The Cranes Nest, Bay Five, Icehouse and Stumpy Bay on Okauchee Lake, or Ashippun, Garvin, Silver, Golden, and Middle Gennessee lakes all have active gills in the shallow water right now.
Stop in the shop, and we’ll get you set up. We have handouts with directions to local shore fishing areas, and we can provide that last minute advice to make your trip successful. Take a kid fishing this weekend. Trust me, the smile on their face is more than worth the effort.
Cheers

North Lake Launch
From Jsonline:
North Lake public access site clears legal hurdle
By Darryl Enriquez of the Journal Sentinel
Posted: Jun. 1, 2009
Waukesha - The last legal hurdle to the installation of a state-controlled public boat launch on North Lake was cleared Monday.
A circuit judge threw out a property owner's challenge of the public's right to use a roadway that connects the launch to a nearby road.
Waukesha County Circuit Judge Ralph Ramirez granted the state's request to dismiss a lawsuit questioning whether the state Department of Natural Resources had a right to direct fishermen and their boats and trailers across a small section of property that makes up the roadway.
Residents' opposition
The DNR began efforts to establish a boat launch in 2005. Progress has been delayed because of legal issues brought by residents opposed to placing the boat launch on the residential west side of the lake, located in the Town of Merton in north-central Waukesha County.
Ramirez said documents for the disputed property revealed nothing prohibiting any use of the road.
North Lake is the last large body of water in the area without a state-operated boat launch. DNR officials say they will proceed with building a $1.3 million launch, 17-space parking area and fishing pier off Reddelien Road.
Commercial district
The North Lake Management District wants the DNR to build a launch on a northeast peninsula of the lake near the Highway 83 commercial district.
The DNR has rejected that site, saying it's too shallow and silt-filled to provide proper boating access to the lake. The Oconomowoc River flows into North Lake and deposits silt there. The North Lake Management District has committed to spending thousands of dollars to dredge a channel at the site so boats could get to deep water.
DNR officials could not say when launch construction would begin other than this summer.

MMTNBBL: Prediction
Week 5 is upon us. I was half right last week, but I did call the under, so I called myself out.
Tonight will depend on how many people show up. There's bound to be a good fish caught this evening, but will it crest 4.5lbs? I have my doubts.
I think the best fish are still focused on spawning gills, and areas with lots of bluegill beds, like the north end of Garvin for example, will have a number of larger fish. If someone could find a good set of gills in 8-12 feet of water, it might be a shooting gallery.
People fishing piers will connect with fish, especially if they fish tight to the inside posts. Rock bars will have some active smallies this evening. Grub and wacky fishing with both be productive.
I think a good number of fish will be caught, and I think a few nice ones will come in. I'll carefully take the over bet this week. If things warm up, a deeper bite will be on the card by next week.

Free Fishing Weekend
Just a reminder, this weekend is free fishing weekend. You won't need to have a license to fish on inland waters.
The idea behind the weekend is to allow anglers and new anglers (ie kids) experience fishing.
If you're headed out this weekend, consider making Musky Mikes your baitshop. We can fix you up with shore fishing locations or put you on some fish on the area lakes.

Fishing Report 6-1-09
June Already? You'd wouldn't know it by the water and the fish behavior.
The water on most area lakes remains cooler than average for this date. Right now most lakes are in the low 60's with a few of the bays in the mid 60's. On many waters it is also high, and with more rain on the way, you can likely expect these conditions to continue. Be sure to check the boards at the launch for possible slow-no-wake restrictions.
Bass Fishing has been steady, with the warmer days producing some quality bags of fish. Fish are starting to move into an early summer pattern, with lots of areas and techniques producing. On cloudy days, topwater and crankbaits are catching lots of fish over open water areas, especially weed patches on the mid-depth flats in 6-12 feet of water. On sunny days, especially those with lots of wind, fish are tighter to cover or using shallow rock bars in 3-8 feet of water. Plastics, flipped, skipped, pitched, wacky or texas rigged are great ways to target these fish. Live bait on slip sinker rigs are catching some nice fish for anglers making solid drifts over productive areas.
Pike fishing picked up a little bit last week. It has been slow and steady, but the pike seem to be a little deeper this year, and I think more anglers are finding them all of a sudden. The number one way to catch pike right now is a small sucker or medium to large shiner on a slip sinker rig with a flourocarbon leader. Drift along the deeper edges of weeds and you'll find some fish. Lipless crankbaits and spinner baits are also producing.
Musky fishing was slow but steady last week. The larger fish have started to move out to the breaks, but there's still a solid number of fish patrolling the shallow water, feeding on schooled up panfish. Okauchee was really hot the past week, with two fish over 48 caught in Stumpy Bay. The wind has been keeping some people off Pewaukee the last week, but anglers who have ventured out have reported mixed success.
Walleye fishing is picking back up. There's a lake fly hatch just waiting to happen, which will shut fishing down for a bit, but for right now its been pretty good. Fish on Lac Labelle, Oconomowoc, Pine and Fox Lake are still using shallow weeds and weed edges. Jigging with live bait or drifting with lindy rigs/ spinner harnesses has been productive Trolling with Shad Raps is picking up on both Winnebago and on Koshkonong. Slower speeds over the deeper part of the basins appears to be the trick. Pulling boards is working, but more than one angler reported doing much better with hand held rods.
Bluegills are spawning on most area lakes. If you're looking for action, areas of beds can be found in the shallows, but if you want some bigger fish, move out to 9-15 feet of water and look for beds in gravel and sandy areas. Vertical fishing with a split shot and live bait rig works great, as does pulling a 1/8 ounce lindy rig with a short leader through likely areas. (Try panfish leaches or leafworms) It's not the bobber approach which works great in the shallows, but it can really produce some quality keepers.
----------
I'll try to update the reports three times a week, but new reports will be up on Mondays and Thursdays or Fridays from now through Labor Day. Stay Tuned. If you ever have questions, or want to know the latest, feel free to email me.
Good Luck,
